Carrie & Gareth are Married!

Filed under: Weddings — twofoot @ 1:59 pm

Everlasting Images

Carrie and Gareth live in England, but got married here in Michigan as it is Carrie’s home state. They wanted an elegant, upscale location for the reception, and besides the fact that multiple weddings occur on the same day, decided upon the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth. Their photographers, Everlasting Images, did an amazing job capturing the day!

Everlasting Images

They also hired a videographer - John from Trifoot Productions. He is always great to work with! Since Shawn served as their main coordinator on the wedding day itself, I unfortunately did not get to see everything happen, so I am VERY glad I can eventually with their video!

Everlasting Images

The wedding ceremony took place at the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth. Flowers and linens for the entire day were done by the amazing Bill Hamilton from Fabulous Events - I will soon be posting detail shots for the day as well!

hThe music was kicked off with a saxophone soloist from Panache Entertainment during cocktail hour. Carrie and Gareth were able to negotiate an amazing deal on their band with Lorio Ross Entertainment, and it kept the dance floor packed all night with the help of their DJ Sara from Platinum Mix Productions.

Congratulations on a beautiful wedding day Carrie and Gareth!

Danielle & Bobby are Married: 08.22.2009

Filed under: Weddings — twofoot @ 4:18 pm

Tent wedding

I have been working very closely with Danielle and her mom over the past year, and it resulted in a gorgeous wedding last Saturday! Setup began the Wednesday before the event, getting the tent up (to prevent soggy ground from the rain), the bathroom trailer in behind the tent, the stage and tables in their correct spot as well as the dance floor, chandeliers and tent liner hung, and all other deliveries taken care of prior to the wedding day.

Fenton United Methodist

Danielle and Bobby were married at Fenton United Methodist Church. They were very accommodating, allowing an outside Pastor to preside, and agreeing to a very non-traditional exit where guests cheered them away with ribbon wands from the front doors of the church! MPE Events did a wonderful job with all of the decor for the day, including personal and church flowers, centerpieces, cocktail hour decor, some of the linens, chandeliers, chargers, napkins and gold Venice chairs.

Elite Sweets

Elite Sweets created the cake, which was adorned with real brooches - including one from Danielle’s grandmother. A crown was used as the topper, and dry ice was placed underneath the stand to prevent it from melting at all since it was located in the sun room.

Cocktail hour

The clouds looked absolutely amazing, I cannot wait to see the photos from their photographer Ray Anthony! He was very unobtrusive, and great to work with throughout the event. Videography was provided by the fabulous Kristyn from Castle Video Productions.

Seating Chart

All paper products, from invitations, to custom menus, to programs, to the amazing seating chart pictured above, to table numbers were created by Jess from Salutations. Everyone loved them and asked for Jess’ information, of course I was happy to share!

Colonial

Colonial Events provided the rentals for the wedding, and almost had to bring in the rain plan! Fortunately the weather held off, and it was a gorgeous day. Epoch Events brought in all the food and servers - my meal was excellent!

Tent at night

Danielle is also sending in her bouquet to be preserved into a painting by CurlyArt, so there is more to come!

Congratulations on a wonderful wedding day you two, it was so much fun working with you both!

Jessica & Chris are Married!

Filed under: Weddings — twofoot @ 12:11 am

Michigan Union

Jessica and I ran together at Michigan, so needless to say I was ecstatic to help her out with her wedding! The ceremony took place at St. Mary’s in Ann Arbor, and my intern Johanna got to do her first ceremony on her own since I had a previous engagement. She did a wonderful job!

Floating candles with orchids

We started setup that day at noon, after getting everything up to the ballroom of the Michigan Union. Jessica had ordered 12,000 rose petals that were added to the centerpieces that she bought and we set up! It looked gorgeous, and was even more so later on at night when the uplighting from MPE Events was visible (they also provided linens). The orchids for the centerpieces were provided by Tom Thompson, as were their personal flowers.

Michigan Union

The DJ was Kurt Cologne from Mike Staff, one of my personal favorites! He kept the dance floor absolutely packed all night, and got several rounds of applause at the end of the night for a job well done. The cake was done by Cakes by Stephanie; it tasted amazing! Jessica is having some of her flowers turned into a painting by CurlyArt as well.

Michigan Wedding

Congratulations you two, it was a pleasure!

Salma’s Bouquet Painting!

Filed under: Bouquet paintings — twofoot @ 12:26 pm

CurlyArt

Salma was married on May 30th, and her bouquet painting was recently completed and looks amazing! CurlyArt did a wonderful job bringing out the blush pink from Salma’s orchids, while still maintaining the neutral shades that she wanted to dominate the painting.

Bouquet preservation

This painting is on a 16×20 inch canvas, and will hang horizontally. Congratulations Salma!

My Latest Article in Buy Michigan Now - Decor

Filed under: Press — twofoot @ 12:14 pm

Wedding decor is something your guests will immediately notice upon entering your ceremony site, cocktail hour area, and reception venue. It can range from simple to extravagant, but should always be a reflection of who you are as a couple and how you want your wedding to feel. The best florists and decorators are those that can mesh their vision with yours to create something amazing. They are able to guide you through the options, asking questions to identify what you like and don’t like, and explain to you the seasonality and unpredictability of the floral industry.

Fabulous Events

A florist should never promise a specific color or flower - they have no control over weather, shipping, availability or other factors which will influence what is available on your wedding date. They can, however, promise a certain look. They can show you backup options in case your favorite color or flower happens to be unavailable. They can tell you which flowers hold up best in the heat of the summer or during mid-winter frosts. That personalization (and support of a local business) is what you can’t get by ordering online or through national chain retailers.

So, what are some of the latest decor trends in the wedding industry?

Fabulous Events

Fabulous Events, based out of Waterford, Michigan is one of the nation’s largest linen suppliers. Few know that they also dabble in the creation of amazing decor as well. As far as linens go, Bill Hamilton of Fabulous Events tells us that ‘there has recently been a considerable color trend with the use of the colors hot pink and orange; it’s everywhere and everyone wants it. Many of the events that we have been assisting our clients with have been incorporating these two colors together into their events”. Another color trend seen all over industry blogs lately has been black and white with a punch of color - yellow, Kelly green, red and turquoise are a sampling of those chosen.

Hamilton goes on to state “Bling has also become a central part of our clients’ expression. Though some of these linens can become pricey, we have recently added beaded runners to our inventory as a less expensive way to incorporate some glitz.” Other ways to add some bling to your wedding include rhinestones attached to menus, table numbers and place cards, gems scattered on the tables, crystal pins in your bouquets, and hanging crystals from your centerpieces.

MPE Events

According to Hamilton, “Another trend spilling over into the wedding industry, which started from corporate sector, is the spandex chair cover and spandex table linen. We have increased our inventory of spandex chair covers by almost 100%. This hip and trendy chair cover has changed the way we perceive a wedding to look. The traditional wedding is almost becoming a thing of the past, with more brides creating a look that is central to their own personality. At Fabulous Events we listen to our clients, ask probing questions and design a look that is not only personal, but unique to them.”

According to Heather Wilkin of MPE Events in Livonia, “Green has been a very popular color lately. Brides have been using many different shades of green, because it works well as an accent color and compliments many other colors. Many brides are using it as their third complimentary color in natural combinations like ivory, brown, and green or in brighter combinations like eggplant, brown, and green. There are a wide variety of green flowers you can use to pull in color, like green hydrangea, bright green tea roses, and green cymbidium orchids just to name a few.”

MPE Events

Wilkin and the rest of the MPE Events team has also seen an increase in the number of brides requesting uplighting around their reception rooms. This is typically a par can or LED light that is placed along the walls and washes color up the wall to the ceiling. “It really adds the ‘WOW’ factor to a room and creates a lounge-like feel to a reception, especially once the guests start dancing. Uplights can be almost any color, so a bride and groom can match it to their wedding colors or use a softer amber color just to create a glow to the room,” suggests Wilkin.

All of the trends are being tweaked and perfected to fit each couple’s likes and interests. Each bride and groom brings a different idea to the table to match their personalities and create a unique event. Putting a spin on the classic color schemes with some new decor items can really make a statement and portray elegance and tradition with a pop of chic fun.

Susana & Josh are Married!

Filed under: Weddings — twofoot @ 1:47 am

Amber Hunt Photography

Susana and Josh live in Washington DC, so I had only met Susana once before the week of her wedding! She looked absolutely stunning in her dress, which was perfect for her. Amber Hunt, her photographer, was great to work with for the first time! She caught some wonderful pictures full of emotion, and I am very excited to see the rest!

Amber Hunt Photography

The ceremony and reception both took place at the Ann Arbor City Club (formerly the Women’s Club). It was a gorgeous day! The officiant was Rev. Christine Drewry, and music for both the ceremony and reception was provided by Platinum Mix Productions.

Ann Arbor City Club

The ceremony started on time, and immediately following guests were served appetizers and drinks of their choice on the outdoor patio area of the Club while formal pictures were taken. A mariachi band performed during cocktail hour and dinner, which added a lor of personality to the event - they were very fun!

Orange and Turquoise

I just loved their color scheme - turquoise and orange! It was so fresh and fun; it added a lot of warmth to the room. Susana and Josh made their table “numbers”, which were all the national parks they have been to! Avid hikers, there was also a pair of them in gold as their cake topper!

Vintage signature mat

Instead of a traditional guest book, they used this amazing vintage poster and mat for guests to sign! It was set on the place card table (since it is hard to sign a mat that is displayed on an easel), and it was packed with notes by the end of the night!

Place cards

Susana made the bouquets and bouts with origami! They were absolutely fabulous, and she is having Curly Art paint her bouquet (since it would be hard to press the paper flowers without them just looking like paper)!

Congratulations Susana and Josh, it was a beautiful wedding!

Fabulous Events’ Fabulous Open House

Filed under: Events — twofoot @ 1:45 am

Fabulous Events hosted an Open House yesterday, and it was a blast! They had tons of food from caterers like 2U (all organic), Epoch, Holiday, the Comerica Park caterers, and surely someone else I am forgetting… Mike Staff provided DJ services, Shutterbooth was there, as were a slew of vendors I met for the first time which is always fun!

Fabulous Events specializes in linens, and in some of the photos above you can see just how extensive their selection is! They have hundreds and hundreds (ok, maybe thousands) of napkins, tablecloths, chair covers, sashes, and more in every shade, fabric and size imaginable. I always have so much fun browsing through it all!

Phyllis & Daniel are Married! 08.08.2009

Filed under: Weddings, Uncategorized — twofoot @ 1:40 am

Phyllis and Daniel were married at Cranbrook House last Saturday, during the rain storm. Unfortunately, the outdoor ceremony couldn’t happen - so Plan B was put into place. Everyone had been told the evening before that should there be rain, we would be doing the ceremony in the Library of Cranbrook House. It is a beautiful room - albeit a bit small for the 150 expected guests! Some people did have to stand, but it worked out wonderfully and the most important part, of course, was that they got married!

One of the tasks I left my assistant Jennifer with at the Birmingham Athletic Club as I went over to the ceremony that morning, was to cut and tie all the string that was to be wrapped around the napkin and place cards. We also set the table numbers, menus, photo sharing cards, and favors which were gender dependent and so cute! The vases Phyllis brought in the night before, and they were filled with flowers from Michelle Nonis.

The cakes (7 varieties) were brought in from Cake Nouveau, one of my favorite stops in Ann Arbor for cupcakes and great conversation! Not only has pastry chef Courtney Clark won tons of awards for her amazing cakes - she is also a wonderful person. The cakes were a huge hit - guests were taking several pieces each! All of the chalkboard signs were done by Phyllis.

The photographer, Sara Chen, was flown in from Southern California - I am so excited to see their shots! She was great to work with, and even made arrangements to do a shoot with the couple the next day at Cranbrook to make up for the lack of outdoor photos due to the rain! The wedding went very well overall, and I had so many helpful family and friends stick around for tear-down that we were out of there within an hour!

Congratulations on a beautiful wedding Phyllis and Daniel, I hope you are having an amazing honeymoon!
