Kristen Taylor Photography

Filed under: My Favorite Vendors — twofoot @ 8:50 pm

My goal in February was to meet many Detroit area vendors that I have not yet had the opportunity to work with. Kristen Taylor Photography was on my list, after hearing so many raves about her from fellow vendors! I went to her adorable house in Birmingham, which is on a block with so many other adorable houses that I really wanted to pack up and move… She is also a California native transplanted to Michigan - I haven’t met all that many of us! I am looking forward to working with Kristen in the future, she does some amazing work and her albums are beautiful!

She did it again!

Betty from Curly Art just sent me this photo of a recently completed bouquet painting, and I love the colors in it! The red gradient looks great with the flowers in this bouquet, it looks like a fall sunset! This is Heather’s bouquet - she was not one of my clients but is a good friend of my mother-in-law and saw some of the past bouquet paintings from Curly Art. I just had to post it because I think it’s beautiful!

MGM Grand Bridal Show

Filed under: Events — twofoot @ 4:26 am

I was pretty excited when Kathleen from the Inn at St. John’s invited me to go to the MGM Grand bridal show on Sunday. It is a new show at a relatively new venue, and a great chance to meet some vendors that I have not had the opportunity to work with yet! Some of my favorite vendors were there as well, including MPE Events, Shutterbooth, Mike Staff Productions and Panache Entertainment!

The MGM Grand is an awesome hotel and casino, and would be a very budget friendly way to do a Vegas wedding without having to force your guests to all travel to Vegas. It would be great to do an earlier afternoon ceremony, early dinner followed by dancing, and end the night in the casino and night clubs!

Carey & Jason 02.21.09

Filed under: Weddings — twofoot @ 1:21 pm

Carey and Jason are an absolutely adorable couple, I loved working with them! Their ceremony took place at 2pm at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit, which is an amazing cathedral - it is just breathtaking! Things got started about ten minutes behind schedule due to the snow - typically the bride walks outside and around to enter through the back of the church. When weather prevents that from happening, a white sheet is used to hide the bride as she walks down the side aisle!

Their photographer was the fabulous Amanda Williams, who is always a pleasure to work with. She captured some beautiful shots of Carey and Jason, a few of which were quickly edited and played on a laptop at the reception! The videographer was a friend of the family.

Carey and her mom took on a TON of the planning and decor themselves, including centerpieces, cake decor, place cards and other paper products, lights and garland. They definitely needed someone to set it all up! It took two of us a little over two hours to assemble all the centerpieces and place all the personal items in the room. The staff at Glen Oaks was a wonderful help as well, placing favors and unwrapping the snowflake place card holders!

Carey’s uncle John did a great job on the piano during cocktail hour! She also had two friends playing the violin during the prelude of the ceremony and prior to the grand entrance. Live music is always a good option! The room ended up looking beautiful, and the snow falling outside definitely added to the winter-themed atmosphere! The food was very good as well.

A few hiccups did occur, such as the DJ requesting a CD of the couple’s special songs and then not being able to play it… Fortunately an assistant was able to get the remaining songs for the evening, but it did delay the entrance time having to choose a new song! Another was the cake topper - which the chef at Glen Oaks did a marvelous job fixing! Whenever you do a topper, make sure the baker knows EXACTLY how the top of the cake needs to accommodate it. Usually, they assume it is flat on the bottom, so they add a layer of rice paper under the frosting. If you need to insert a topper into the cake (such as the snowflake on Carey’s), this makes it very very difficult!

Their rings were, of course, the subject of several creative shots. The one below is my favorite from my camera! Overall the evening went very well. Guests were dancing all night, there were many photo ops in the side room where family photos, a guest book and the slideshow were located, and the bar was constantly packed! Congratulations on a beautiful wedding day Carey and Jason, I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon cruise!

Personalized Napkins etc.

Filed under: Favors — twofoot @ 1:10 pm

Beau Coup has some adorable favors, but they do so much more as well! One of my favorites is the personalized napkins that can display a monogram, a quote, a saying, or even some of the most interesting, unknown or quirky facts about the two of you!

They also offer wedding cake boxes for those of you sending cake home with your guests, various cake toppers, and tons of other wedding, baby, birthday, anniversary and general celebration items!

Castle Wedding Anyone?

Filed under: Venues — twofoot @ 1:55 am

This is a picture of Oheka Castle, located on Long Island in Huntington, NY. I have always loved castles, and the idea of a castle wedding is just breathtaking to me! Now, there are places in Michigan where you can have a castle wedding, but how much fun would it be to ship 60 of your closest family and friends to Long Island for a weekend wedding celebration?

As a little girl, I always wanted to walk down a staircase like this on my wedding day… It’s too late for me, but you can do it! Featured on the Grace Ormonde Platinum List, it does come with premium pricing (of course) but what a weekend you would have! Should you want to invite more than those staying at the castle with you, the Terrace room can seat 400 for dinner - and I will gladly help your guests find outside accommodations!

If you need a way to relax the morning of the wedding, just take a dip in the gorgeous private pool! You can light the bottom with your monogram for anyone who wants to leave the party for some quiet time to enjoy, or incorporate it into a water polo match between your family and his!

Celebrate the next morning with a private breakfast for two, overlooking the amazing grounds. Golf and tennis are also available to those who still have energy left after a night of dining and dancing!

Very Different Cakes

Filed under: My Favorite Vendors — twofoot @ 12:21 pm

I was watching Get Married the other day on TV, and came across this amazing cake idea that I just LOVE! The baker is Very Different Cakes, a company in Los Angeles that does very exclusive cakes starting at $2500 (so different from the Detroit area…).

The cakes are not only beautifully decorated - they are also separated on funky cake stands that take them to an entirely new level! I would love to find out how much one of the stands costs, but my guess is the company has them done on a custom basis…

They also sell Swarovski crystal monograms, hearts and flowers as well as butterflies etc. to decorate your own cake with for much less than the baker’s price tag!

I love wedding cakes, especially ones that look like something out of an art gallery - which is why I have to share some more of Very Different Cakes’ cakes with you!

The Women Business Owners of Southeastern Michigan (WBO) is a group of women who own or work at a company where women are a majority. This year, I am serving as Special Events Coordinator for the organization! I will be planning the July Open House, the End-of-Year Banquet, and any other events that come up along the way!

I am excited to be a part of this group of very inspiring women, as well as to grow and plan non-wedding related events! I will also be attending several Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce events throughout the year to promote the organization.

Vintage Super 8mm Wedding Coverage

Filed under: My Favorite Vendors — twofoot @ 3:35 pm

In Films is a relatively new service to couples who love film, but are not very excited about the idea of a “typical” wedding video. For couples who love everything vintage. For couples who like to do things outside the box. And starting at $2000, for such an original piece of art - the price is right!

From the website: Why Super 8 wedding films? Simply, the nostalgic beauty. Our brides often describe wedding videos as “cheesy.” In Films pioneered Super 8mm wedding videography as the artistic alternative. Whether you desire a production akin to the original silent films (black and white tones with a musical backdrop), a 20th century style wedding movie (full color with sync-sound), or a collaboration of styles, our Super 8mm films are captivating.

You also get to take the film with you along with the converted DVD. That way, whenever DVDs become obsolete, you will be able to convert the film into any medium available at the time using the original footage. Check out their Facebook page for some demos!
