Plush paper invitations

Amber and Keiland will be married on August 21st this year; I can’t wait to help them out with their big day! Their invitations were just posted on the Plush Paper blog, so I thought I would share!

Michigan invitations plush paper

From the Plush Paper blog: “The theme of Amber and Keiland’s wedding is “picture perfect”. Amber really liked the antique gold z-card, and this format worked really well to showcase their ivory invitation, enclosure cards and engagement photo.”

Congratulations to you both on some beautiful invitations!

Sharon & Justin are Married!

First Presbyterian Saline Wedding

Sharon and Justin were married on Saturday, May 22nd at the First Presbyterian Church of Saline. It was a beautiful ceremony, and one of their readings I will be posting later on as it is currently at the top of my list of favorites! They rang the church bell on their way out for the receiving line, and fortunately the rain held off long enough for them to do it outside in the park across the street.

Michigan League Wedding

The reception was held at the Michigan League on the University of Michigan campus. Cocktail hour was supposed to take place outside in their beautiful garden (which has recently been renovated), but a surprise downpour around 3:30pm forced the League to bring everything inside. Myself and two assistants (Kristen and Ashley) made sure that everything was set up in time for guests’ arrival, along with some help from the fabulous staff at the League.

Tabla and Sitar players Michigan wedding

During the cocktail hour, tabla and sitar players entertained guests as they grabbed a drink and mingled throughout the ballroom. The DJ, Sara from Platinum Mix (one of my favorites) set up a gobo of the couple’s monogram and got ready for the evening’s entertainment. Shutterbooth was also set up and ready to go!

Lily centerpieces Michigan wedding planning

The flowers were provided by The Little Flower Shop in Farmington Hills. I absolutely loved the bride and bridesmaids’ bouquets, they were full of color and held up wonderfully throughout the night! Photography was done by John Rogers, who I worked with for the first time. I am excited to see how they turn out!

Cupcake wedding tower

A small wedding cake to cut and the cupcakes were baked at Jefferson Market and Cakery in Ann Arbor. The cake cutting was delayed a bit as one of my assistants rushed to get the slide show that had been forgotten, but everything else really did go off very smoothly!

Congratulations on a beautiful wedding Sharon & Justin, we wish you all the best in your marriage!

The Search for an Eco Friendly Venue

Filed under: Planning — twofoot @ 7:04 am

LEED certified venue wedding

The information below was posted on the Great Places Directory blog by Lori Hill, and I think the information is worth sharing again here. So many couples want to be more eco-friendly in their planning efforts, and knowing what to look for when researching appropriate venues is a great first step!

Event and meeting professionals are making great strides in greening up our events through catering, decor, printed materials, transportation and of course, the venue selection. When choosing a green venue, the easiest and most logical choice is a building with a LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) designation of either Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum. The LEED designation is bestowed by the U.S. Green Building Council and indicates that a building meets the highest green building and performance measures with respect to:

  • Lower operating costs
  • Reduced waste sent to landfills
  • Conservation of energy and water
  • A healthier and safer environment for occupants
  • Reduction in harmful greenhouse gas emissions
  • Demonstration of the owner’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility

If a building has a LEED designation, its management undoubtedly cares about the environment. More and more venues are seeking out this designation, but in the meantime, venues can still engage in environmentally friendly initiatives without having the LEED designation.

If you work at a venue, be sure to talk up your green initiatives. Eco conscious planners want to give our business to venues that care about the impact they are making on the Earth.

To find an environmentally friendly venue, or to list your environmentally friendly venue, here are some helpful web sites:

  • Environmentally Friendly Hotels
  • Green Hotels Association
