Spring is here, and one of my favorite parts of Spring are the beautiful tulips in bloom! We have a huge patch of purple tulips outside our house that blooms pretty late (they are shaded), and every year I promise myself to plant some new colors for next year. Tulips look great in arrangements and bouquets for weddings, it’s just too bad their season doesn’t last very long! I would love to plan an April wedding around tulips…
Tulips can seem redundant if you do the same thing over and over again throughout the room. From Blooming Design, add some interest to the bottom of the centerpiece with fruit! You can mix it up and use lemons, limes, and oranges, or different elements such as colored marbles, rocks, grasses etc.
From Martha Stewart, the table above just screams Spring! Pastel colors are not everyone’s favorite, but they do look fantastic next to a bolder color or two such as the orange and hot pink above.
My very favorite are the parrot tulips; I think they look like works of art!
I am so excited to be planning a wedding at the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) for the first time next February! It is a gorgeous venue, and there is always so much you can do to a space when literally everything needs to be brought in from the outside!
The above space rents for $5000, and includes security guards that make sure your guests aren’t bringing food or drink into any of the galleries (which do remain open!). Alcohol is permitted (beer and wine only), and caterers must cook the food outside of the museum to prevent damage to the artwork. There is quite an extensive list of approved caterers, definitely something for any taste as well as budget.
The above desk area can be moved upon request to allow for more space. Without a dance floor, capacity is 250 - but that would be pretty tight! Uplighting is allowed, and the built in pin-spots maybe adjusted upon request. Bands and DJs are also permitted, but volume must be kept under 85 decibels.
This is the new wing of UMMA, of which the foyer may be rented for additional space as can Tappan Court if you are interested in doing an outdoor ceremony prior to your reception. That won’t happen for a February wedding, but I am sure there will be many more Museum of Art weddings in our future!
Lindsay & Christian were married two years ago today at the Historic Trinity church in Detroit, with a reception following at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

Robert Kiefer and his wife, Carol Ponder, have written a book entitled “How to Write Your Own Wedding Vows and Toasts: A Workbook for Brides and the Men Who Love Them”. Written in workbook format, it leads brides and grooms through the creative process of writing their own vows.
Many of the couples we plan weddings with get married outside of a traditional place of worship. They tend to utilize the services of a professional officiant for their ceremony, but often do not stray too far from “standard” when putting together the words for the ceremony itself. I don’t think that is necessarily the couple’s fault - they are just going in the direction they are steered in by their officiant!
This workbook, on the other hand, does a great job of guiding couples through their vows and other spoken elements of the wedding, asking them to think about what will be said on such a momentous day in their lives, and gives them control to do something about it. You will be guided through:
If you are looking for something just a hair’s length away from the traditional to something completely unique and different, this book is for you! It does a great job of guiding the thought process from the contents of what you want to say and why you want to say it, to formatting and rearranging the words so that they also sound terrific when they are being said out loud on your wedding day.

A few days ago, Tifany from Gourmet Invitations posted Kathleen and Eric’s awesome invitations! Kathleen had very specific ideas for the invitation design, so I knew I had to send her to Tifany to execute them - and she absolutely did!
The wedding will be taking place in June at Cherry Creek, so stay tuned for the details from their big day!
Custom stamps always dress up invitations so much more - I wish I could use them for everything I mail out!
I love that Kathleen and Eric also incorporated their dogs into the invitations!
It has been so much fun planning the wedding with Kathleen and Eric, now I can’t wait for the wedding day to arrive!
Cassandra and Jeremy were married on October 3rd, 2009 at Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills. We were so busy coordinating everything for their wedding, that I never had a chance to take photos! These are from their photographer, Dionne of The Shooting Gallery - I am so excited to finally share their beautiful wedding day!
They did a “first look” or reveal moment before the ceremony, which definitely helps get the nerves out ahead of time and allows for much more picture time. While this was going on, our team was busy wiping up the chairs in hopes that the rain would hold off for their planned outdoor ceremony!
Fortunately it did, and the ceremony went wonderfully! Guests came inside Cranbrook afterwords for appetizers and drinks as the bride and groom signed their marriage license, changed shoes and got some touch-ups done. This is about the time when my emergency kit comes in particularly handy!
Some of the details from the wedding…
Coordinating a couple’s wedding day typically concludes with a lot of packing up at the end of the night - which was also the case for Cassandra and Jeremy. They had plenty of cupcakes, flowers, gifts and cards, etc. to make sure got in the proper cars!
A lot of planning goes into a wedding day! That is especially true for tented events, which involve many more wedding professionals as well as backup plans in case of weather and other mishaps. Kristyn from Castle Video Productions caught us in action during Danielle & Bobby’s wedding in August last year, and I thought I would share this video of some of the detail involved! TwoFoot Creative was there throughout the planning of this wedding, and since then we have had the opportunity to be involved in many more tented events - so stay tuned for the 2010 wedding season!
