Anna & Chris are Married! 05.18.2013

Anna & Chris were married on May 18th at the Michigan Union in Ann Arbor, MI. Their ceremony took place in the Pendleton Room, where Red Poppy Floral lined the aisle with white rose petals and created beautiful pieces at the end of the aisle. The bouquets the girls carried were stunning!

After the ceremony (which was performed by the brother of the groom), guests made their way down the hallway to the Rogel Ballroom while the couple took their formal pictures with Lennon Photography.

The bridal party came back from pictures to appetizers we brought down for them, and Anna & Chris got ready to make their grand entrance (we assisted in taking out her veil and adding extra bustling to the gown to make sure it wouldn’t get stepped on!).

The room looked fabulous with decor from Red Poppy, Chair Covers & Linens and Quest Productions, and the Trilogy Band kept things going PAST the end of the night – the bride & groom requested an extra half hour because no one was ready to go home!

The bride’s sister created a beautiful slideshow of Anna & Chris that played throughout the evening on a screen that was brought in, and next to it we placed their guest book for guests to sign throughout the evening.

Gwen’s Cake Decorating made a delicious cake – guests had three flavors to choose from and there was enough left at the end of the night to box up and bring to the Bell Tower for brunch the next day!

Congratulations Anna & Chris, it was a pleasure being part of your wedding day!

New Venue: The Ballroom at McKay

This gorgeous space is located in the heart of Downtown Grand Rapids. It was once Grand Rapids National Bank but has been completely revitalized into the luxurious and elegant event space known as The Ballroom at McKay. The McKay Tower, home of the new ballroom, is a historic landmark to Grand Rapids.

The 10,900 square foot event space continues to grasp the building’s historic value with the original marble walls and 24 foot Doric white columns. The space also features the original bank vault tucked away and now used as a wine cellar.

The space can accommodate around 200 guests for all sorts of occassions. The Ballroom features a state of the art kitchen and bar space has six preferred caterers. Most of which were at the grand opening where we had the pleasure of trying an array of foods.

You can host a lavish event in this gorgeous space for $6,000 which includes an added bonus of Mahogany Venice chairs, Floor Length table linens. The Ballroom at McKay is now booking events for Summer 2013 and beyond. We are excited to design fabulous events there so contact us for a personal consultation and to set up a viewing!

Ceit & Nadav are Married! 05.11.2013

Ceit & Nadav were married at the Exhibit Museum of Natural History in Ann Arbor, MI on May 11th! It was so much fun planning their wedding with Ceit’s mother Gael, and it all came together beautifully!

Hopefully we will be able to work there again, it was a great venue for a strolling reception.Guests arrived at 7:30pm for dinner, which was set out on various food stations throughout the second floor of the Museum. From the Hearth did a wonderful job with all the food.

After sundown, guests were invited downstairs to the lobby, where Ceit & Nadav’s ceremony took place. We set up 120 chairs here, which filled the room – I wouldn’t recommend more than 150 total for a ceremony and strolling reception!

The arrangements, candles, chuppah and personal flowers were all created by Bill Hamilton Designs. Ceit’s bouquet and Gael’s nosegay were brought with us for CurlyArt to transform into a beautiful painting. We brought in rentals from both Chair Covers & Linens and Special Events Rental to pull the decor together.

The dinosaur theme of course started with the Museum, and was carried over into the gorgeous invitations from Gourmet Invitations. Ceit & Nadav ordered their cake topper to carry along the theme, which was placed on top of a beautiful Sweet Heather Anne cake. Guests were invited up for cake after the ceremony.

Instead of favors, a donation was made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. These cards were placed on each of the 15 cocktail tables that were spread throughout the reception space. Jim from Quest Productions transformed the reception space during the ceremony so dessert was served in a much moodier room, and then the lobby was converted for dancing while guests were upstairs.

Congratulations Ceit & Nadav – it was a beautiful wedding and we were so happy to be a part of it!

Meet our new intern Kelly!

This fall, I’ll be starting my senior year at the University of Michigan, studying for a degree in Communications. In my spare time, I love being outdoors and now that the sun is shining, I’ll be spending as much time at the beach as possible. My favorite movie is Clueless, I remember first watching it with my mom when I was a teenager and now it’s our mother-daughter tradition.

I got the wedding bug after I was a bridesmaid in my sister-in-law’s wedding last spring, so I’m really excited to go behind the scenes with TwoFoot Creative this season. I can’t wait to see how everything comes together to create the perfect day!

Summer Yellow!

I am dreaming of sunshine and lemonade, so for a color post I knew that I needed to talk about the color yellow!

Yellow really is a great color that compliments other colors; it adds the pop that you need to make things stand out and take notice.

There are also many fabulous flowers in yellow – so you’ll have your pick from whimsical billy balls to elegant callas and almost everything in between!

The first combination I loved was yellow and gray. Gray is a great neutral color, but throw in a soft or bright yellow and you have something beautiful.

Yellow and Navy are such a modern look, and this has nothing to do with a certain college we all love (GO BLUE)!! The combination looks very fresh and clean, and can be done fun, preppy and elegant!

My next combination is simple but also warm and cheery- yellow and white. This would lend itself well to using house linens at a venue – since those usually are white – and adding yellow centerpieces and napkins to the table.

I also looked up what shades of yellow look good on certain skin tones just in case you wanted to allow your bridal party to choose different shades to add depth:

  • A yellow, gold tone will look good on any skin tone.
  • Medium to Dark skin tone will want to try the brighter shades of yellow.
  • If you have pale skin your going to want a dull or pastel shade of yellow.

Summer is here, and our wedding season has begun. We look forward to hearing about your color combinations as well!

Components of a Wedding Invitation

Wedding invitations are one of the first things guests see regarding your wedding, which makes it especially important to create a invitation that represents you and your wedding. A great place to start is to think about the unique qualities of your wedding or relationship that you want to express to your guests.

This wedding invitation by Leesa Dykstra Designs portrays a unique birdcage design with beautiful colors specially designed for the couple. This invitation also includes the essential information necessary for guests. Important things to place on your wedding invitation include writing out the full names of the bride and groom, the date (including the year), the location of both the ceremony and reception, and sometimes parents’ names or the mention of the parents, as this invitation shows.

Tailoring the invitation to the season also provides a reminder to the guests as to when the wedding is, as well as provides a unique touch. This invitation incorporates the holiday season with its design, allowing the date of the wedding to be a part of the invitation design.

This board displays some of the essential parts of a wedding invitation. Important things to include with your invitations are a response card and envelope with your address on it for the guest to easily RSVP (don’t forget to stamp the envelopes before stuffing!) Providing a card with accommodations is also helpful for your guests.

When deciding on your wedding invitations, remember to include the essential details and items, but most importantly remember to make them uniquely you!
